People who support Palestine held protests at universities in the US, but some of the protests turned violent. Police had to come to the campuses and arrest many people.

Most of the people protesting want to stop giving money to companies that help Israel and the fighting in Gaza.

On Wednesday at UCLA, some people were told to leave or they would be taken by the police. Instead, they stayed and shouted support for Palestine.

UCLA said that on Thursday and Friday, all classes will be taught online and there will be limited activities on campus.

The leader of California was upset that the police took too long to help when a fight happened at UCLA between a group of people who support Israel and a group who support Palestine. The fight started when some people wearing masks attacked the other group before the police arrived.

Governor Gavin Newsom’s helper said it was not okay that the police took too long to help.

The police took away some people who were supporting Palestine at Columbia University.

State officials and university leaders say that security guards quickly went to the area where people supporting Palestine were gathered on Tuesday night after fights broke out. Some people who saw what happened said that the police didn’t come right away and there was a short time when no one was there to help.

Think of it like this: the president said that the protests on college campuses are similar to the riots that happened at the Capitol on January 6th. Meanwhile, another leader is trying to make a deal to stop the fighting in Gaza to avoid getting in trouble.

The police just stayed on the edge of the grass and wouldn’t move, even when we asked them for help, said UC Divest at LA, a group that was part of the camp.

People who were upset started to go home two hours after the bad thing happened, and the police took control on Wednesday.

Governor Newsom said that people are allowed to speak their minds, but they are not allowed to encourage or do things that hurt others or break the law.

He said that the people who did something wrong should be punished, either by going to jail, getting suspended, or being kicked out. According to a newspaper, there were not enough UCLA police officers and they left because there were too many people.

The police needed help from other places like the California Highway Patrol and Los Angeles to stop the problem, and it took three hours to make everything better.

Columbia University stopped some students from protesting.

Late at night, there was a big argument at a famous university in the US. This happened shortly after the police in New York made students leave a building at Columbia University where they were protesting.

Protests at Columbia about the fighting in Gaza are causing similar protests at other colleges in the US.

Many students in different places are joining together to protest and ask schools to stop doing business with Israel and companies making money from the war.

The university officials said they had lots of security in the area, but they didn’t want to stop the mostly peaceful protests. On Tuesday, a big group of people supporting Israel came to campus in black clothes and white masks and tried to take down the barriers.

People wearing masks hit the campers with sticks and bats, sprayed them with mace and bear spray, and ripped down their signs and boards.

College leaders are feeling more and more pressure to stop protests supporting Palestine because these protests are happening in more and more places across the country.

Some people who support Palestinians took over Columbia University and the mayor of New York City said that some of the people causing trouble were not from the university.
