The police needed help from other places to stop the problem, and it took three hours to do so.

Many people, including students in many different states, are protesting to ask schools to stop doing business with Israel and companies that are making money from the war.
The university officials said they had a lot of security in the area, but decided not to stop the mostly peaceful protests. On Tuesday, a big group of people wearing black clothes and white masks came to campus and tried to take down the barriers.
People wearing masks hit the campers with sticks and bats, sprayed them with smelly spray and tear down their signs and boards.
College leaders are feeling more and more pressure to stop protests supporting Palestine because these protests are happening more and more across the country.
Many people were arrested at Columbia University because they were protesting in support of Palestine. The mayor said some of the people causing trouble were not students.
